Over 2 billion people worldwide, including in Bulgaria, watched the farewell ceremony live on television.
The funeral ceremony in memory of Michael Jackson did not look like a farewell, but his last show. In the Staples Center hall in Los Angeles, Jaco’s brothers brought the closed gilded coffin with his body, although it was previously announced that the funeral would take place before the farewell ceremony.
Jacko’s last show lasted more than two hours in front of 20,000 people. Over 2 billion people worldwide, including in Bulgaria, watched the ceremony live on television.
The casket was placed in front of the stage and was laden with wreaths and baskets of flowers.
The first farewell speech was entrusted to the American producer and songwriter Smokey Robinson, who read a message from Jacko’s close friend – the solo singer Diana Ross and from the former president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Laureate Nelson Mandela.
“Michael Jackson was a great man. We mourn with his millions of fans around the world. We admired his talent and the way he dealt with injustice. I, my wife, my family, our friends, we mourn,” wrote Mandela, whom Jaco had met several times during his travels in Africa.
The video footage of many Michael Jackson videos had the strongest impact on the audience. Among them were shots of his famous “moon walk”.
Jaco Paris’s 11-year-old daughter, sobbing, said since she was born her dad had been the best, bringing the audience to tears.
The most famous stars in show business and his closest friends said goodbye to the king of pop music. Stevie Wonder, Keun Latifah, Jennifer Hudson sang in his honor at the Staples Center. The farewell concert was opened by Mariah Carey, who sang a duet with Trym Lorenz “I’ll Be There”. The composition is part of the “Jackson Five” repertoire, from which Jacko’s career began.
Lionel Richie made the audience cry again with “Jesus is Love”. In 1985, he and Jackson recorded the world-famous composition “We are The World”, which they sang together with 40 other singers for a charity project against hunger in Africa. With this song, sung by all the singers who came to say goodbye to Michael Jackson, the concert in his memory ended.
At the beginning of the ceremony there was an inscription on the stage “In loving memory of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop (1958-2009)”. Later it was replaced by a new inscription “I to the living, will be here forever”.
And after the mourning ceremony, it remained unknown when and where the king of pop will be buried. It was previously reported that his casket was delivered last night to Hollywood’s Forest Lawn Cemetery, but the hearse later left for Liberty Hall Cemetery Mausoleum in Los Angeles. Her movements were followed live by helicopters on American TV channels. Shortly before the memorial service began, police announced that the golden casket would be brought into Staples Sports Center.
