The Run for Peace initiative dates back to 1987 and covers over 150 countries on all continents. The participants in the international initiative handed Radka Ivanova a burning torch, symbolizing people’s aspiration for understanding and harmony. The participants were applauded by the fourth-graders from the “Hristo Botev” Secondary School, by the students of the Vocational High School of Restaurant and Hotel Management and citizens, and at the end of the event, everyone together planted a “tree of peace” in the city park.

In her speech, Radka Ivanova said that peace is one of the most vulnerable and fragile pieces of the world puzzle, which each of us must support and keep intact like the apple of our eye. She ended her speech with the words of Aristotle, “It is not important to win the war. It is more important to create peace” and wished everyone to be ambassadors of understanding not only in Bulgaria, but also in Europe and the whole world.

“Peace Run” is a global relay that aims to promote rapprochement between the peoples of the world and help build a world united in its development efforts. The founder of the initiative is the Indian philosopher, poet and peacemaker Sri Chinmoy. Over the years, the run has been supported by a number of prominent athletes, public figures and cultural figures around the world. This year, the start of the civil initiative “Peace Run” was given in the Vatican by Pope Francis personally. The participants in it and the long run follow the call of the founder “Don’t stop dreaming. One day your dream of peace on earth will encompass the whole world”.

Before Pavel Banya, the “Peace Walk” relay stopped briefly in front of the Rose Museum in Kazanlak. The runners who arrived at the Rosarium Park with the lit torch of peace were welcomed by the mayor of the municipality, Galina Stoyanova, by the chairman of the Eagle’s Nest Tourist Association, Zhelio Zhelev, and by ultramarathoner Radi Milev.
