the world of entertainment turned upside down

No curfew on the 31st, no postponement of the start of the new school year, no closure of cultural places … In short, the new health measures announced by the government to counter the fifth wave and the Omicron variant are less severe than in many cases. from European countries. At least in general. Because some sectors will still bear the brunt of this new screw-up, and in particular that of entertainment.

The gauges, a time forgotten, will make their comeback on Monday January 3, for “a period of three weeks” minimum. From this date, it will no longer be possible to go to events bringing together more than 5,000 people outdoors and 2,000 people indoors.

Traffic jams to predict

A measure that will affect the sports world, but also the music sector. Moreover, standing concerts will simply be banned from January 3, again for at least three weeks.

Suffice to say that several artists will have to postpone the concerts they had planned in January. It’s hard to imagine, for example, an Orelsan concert only seated. However, the tour of the rapper with the triple platinum disc was to start in Caen in mid-January.

For people who have already bought their tickets: don’t panic. You can be reimbursed for your place in any case. In addition, your ticket will still be valid if the concert you were to attend is postponed.

But this is where things get complicated. Malika Seguineau, from Prodiss (national union for musical and variety shows), believes that several concerts cannot be rescheduled. “I exchanged with producers concerned by tours: they will be canceled because there is no longer any availability for the year 2022 between all the dates postponed and the new shows”, she lamented.

The exception for meetings makes people cringe

Malika Seguineau also regretted a lack of consultation on the part of the executive. “We are once again becoming a forbidden sector, it is despair again”, she reacted, recalling that the entertainment world “has played the game of the health pass since this summer”.

Others were annoyed that political meetings, which sometimes bring together thousands of people, were not affected by the gauges. A “stronger protection” that Prime Minister Jean Castex justified Monday by “constitutional law” and the very next presidential election.

A decision that some have decided to take with humor, like Julien Doré. On a poster summarizing the dates of his tour, the singer replaced the expression “in concert” by “in meeting”. The artists Eddy de Pretto and Hoshi also joked on Twitter, suddenly discovering a political vocation.
