General Milley, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the three great powers are reshaping the tri-polar configuration.
He went on to explain why he thought the US should “pay a premium” to maintain its influence.

Speaking at the Aspen Security Forum on Wednesday (11/3/2021), General Milley acknowledged that the years of US domination may be coming to an end.
“We are entering a tri-polar world with the US, Russia and China as the great powers. Only by introducing three vs two you get an increase in complexity,” he said. Russia Today.
Milley believed that maintaining peace between the great powers in a tri-polar configuration would be much more difficult than it was during the Cold War, when the two powers were at loggerheads.
Rapidly evolving technology, the general said, also adds to the complexity, with the world being potentially much more strategically unstable than, say, the last 40, 50 or 60 years.
“What does that mean? It means, in my opinion, we should put great power peace first,” he said.
