The guest artists of the festival will be complemented by the participation of Latvian musicians. Musician Sniedze Prauliņa will perform together with the Estonian duo “Puuluup”, combining the most sonorous traditions of both nations, while Raimonds and Oskars Petrauski will perform together with the Finnish multi – instrumentalist Maija Kauhanen.
Maija Kauhanena plays the Finnish kantele “Saarijärvi” using an old playing technique where the kantele is played with a small piece of wood. Combining it with polyrhythmics and the natural nerve of rhythm, the musician creates unique landscapes of sound and mood. Maija is a composer and versatile multi-instrumentalist. Maija Kauhanen’s main source of inspiration is the musical traditions of Finnish and Karelian farmers, but she gives new life to her old melodies.
Musical association “Puuluup” is a duo from Estonia – Ramo Teders and Marko Weisons. Their first album, Süüta mu lumi, was released in 2018, combining surrealism, modern folklore and the use of the ancient instrument talharp. The duo’s characteristic sound is created with the help of various modern music technologies – electronics and looping techniques.
Sniedze Prauliņa has sung in the vocal group “Anima Solla” and in the choirs “Ave Sol” and “Mūza”. On March 12, 2014, together with the choir “Muse”, he released the album “Intro”, in which non-traditional choral songs composed by Sniedze Prauliņa can be heard. On April 8, 2017, the singer’s first solo album “Inlay” was released, which was nominated for the 2017 Austra Award. Together with musician Edgars Šubrovskis and multi-instrumentalist Oskars Jansons, the group “Juuk” performs songs in the folk and country music traditions of the USA and Western Europe. In 2019, Juuk released their first album, Indulgence Traders.
The Petrauski brothers are pianists Raimonds Petrauskis and a saxophonist Oskars Petrauskis – have repeatedly represented Latvia in the world as a concert duo of the highest quality. The musicians demonstrate a wide field of activity, playing both academic music and jazz, as well as music from theater performances and world music. The Petrauskas brothers, together with percussionist Rihards Zaļupis, have a successful musical collaboration in the ensemble “Xylem trio”, which performed at the World Music Festival “Porta” in 2017.
