JAKARTA – Developer TikTok will increase the video duration from one minute to three minutes. With longer TikTok videos, creators will have a canvas to create new types of content.
Reported BBC News, Saturday (3/7/2021), In a blog post, TikTok product manager Drew Kirchhoff said, increasing the length of the video will allow for richer storytelling and entertainment.
According to a TikTok blog post, the change came because some users said they would be happy if the videos were a little longer.

In a blog post, TikTok wrote, “With longer videos, creators will have the canvas to create new or expanded content types on TikTok with more flexibility.”
Since its launch in 2018, TikTok has limited the duration of videos that users can display to only 60 seconds per video. This video time limit is what sets it apart from competitors like YouTube.
Ape Stewart, a drummer who has had success on TikTok, doesn’t seem to like the development of increasing video length. “Personally, I’m not a fan of the idea,” he told Radio 1 Newsbeat.

“The reason TikTok is so successful is because it takes advantage of the short range of videos. You can get so much different content and entertainment in a short amount of time. I feel like three minutes of video will change the app drastically,” he said.
Earlier this week, the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri announced that they were planning to make changes as well.
In a video, he says the four areas they focus on are how users can make money, improve the platform’s shopping and messaging features – and focus more on video.
“People are looking to Instagram to be entertained, we have to provide that and that means change,” he said.

“What you’ll see over the next few months, really, is we’re starting to experiment more. We’re also going to be embracing video more broadly. Fullscreen, immersive, entertaining, mobile-first video,” he said.
