The World Health Organization (WHO) and India’s G20 Presidency announced a new Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) at the G20 Summit Health Ministers Meeting hosted by the Government of India.
According to a statement published on the official website of the WHO, the GIDH initiative, which will operate as a network managed by the WHO, aims to support the implementation of the Global Strategy on Digital Health 2020-2025, the UN agency acting as Secretariat for this strategy.
Speaking on the occasion, WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, thanked the G20 countries and the Indian G20 Presidency for their support of this initiative, stressing WHO’s commitment to working with countries to build their capacity in digital health.
On his part, India’s Minister of Health, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya hailed the day as a momentous one for the G20 Health Task Force, as this initiative is one of the key deliverables of India’s G20 Presidency.
The GIDH initiative aims to bring countries and partners together to develop clear investment plans, improve resource transparency, facilitate knowledge exchange and support comprehensive approaches to digital health governance in countries.
