The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs points out that it has not been informed that North Korea will again allow foreigners to enter the country.
Chinese national broadcaster CCTV reported on Monday that North Korea has again opened the border to foreigners, and that all visitors must go through a two-day quarantine on arrival.
But China has not received any notification via diplomatic channels that the border has been reopened, says a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.
North Korea has very strict entry rules, and during the corona pandemic the border was practically completely closed.
China has been considered one of North Korea’s few allies, although the relationship between the two countries is not uncomplicated. Recently, Russia has forged closer ties with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un, probably to secure more weapons that can be used in the war in Ukraine.
