Gangel, or real name Odysseus Papatanasiu, died on May 17 in a hospital in France after being infected with Covid-19. He gained recognition in the late 1960s as a member of the progressive rock band Aphrodite’s Child. The world-famous Greek singer Demiss Russ also began his career as a musician in this group. He later turned to electronic music and became interested in space exploration, nature, modern architecture, and Christianity.
Since the beginning of his career, Vangelis has created music for more than 50 albums and many movies. He received an Oscar from the American Film Academy for his music for the 1981 British historical sports drama The Fire Chariot.
