The world celebrates emergency-urgency medicine. And Perugia makes us a video – Chronicle

Perugia – May 24, 2021 – The May 27 will be celebrated all over the world international day of Emergency-Urgency Medicine, for the fourth consecutive year. The Hospital of Perugia for the occasion, it produced a video documenting the work of the emergency area carried out by the health professionals of the 118 and the Emergency Department directed by Dr. Paolo Groff. The purpose of this day, promoted by the European Society of Emergency-Urgency Medicine, is to bring to the attention of the general public the importance that this discipline plays within the public health systems in all countries as a guarantee of professionalism and quality of care.

The basic theme of this year’s campaign revolves around the motto “We are always there for you” to signify the continuity with which the Emergency Department and the 118 emergency systems guarantee all this 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for everything. year, thanks to the commitment of doctors, nurses and social and health workers who “choose” this job every day. They are not heroes, but fully convinced that they are carrying out the “most beautiful health profession in the world”.

The video made by the Perugia Hospital wanted to highlight precisely this aspect of normality in the professional choice of all emergency-urgency operators, but at the same time would like to stimulate the public to reflect on the importance of this service for the health of the collectivity and the need to preserve it, defend it and respect it.

“The period we have gone through has put us in front of numerous challenges, – says Dr. Paolo Groff, director of the Emergency-Urgency Department of the Perugia Hospital and Italian contact person for EUSEM – forcing us to have organizational flexibility never experienced before. All this, however, also allowed us to reflect on the importance of our work and to find a new cohesion around our core identity: to be emergency-urgency operators ”.
