We already know the European and Czech car of the year 2023 – it is the Jeep Avenger, or Honda Civic – and it remains world class. The winners in the individual categories will be announced on April 5 at the New York Auto Show, but we already have three finalists in front of us in all six categories.
Unlike last year and the year before last, when the main category was dominated by electric cars, this year a car with an internal combustion engine – Kia Niro and BMW X1/iX1 – has a chance to win. Kia is available not only as a battery electric car, but also as a plug-in hybrid and a “self-charging”, so-called full hybrid, the BMW X1 offers petrol and diesel engines in addition to a pure electric system.
Among the judges of the World Car of the Year poll are representatives of 14 countries, but not the Czech Republic. The United States has the strongest representation, a significant number of jurors are also from China, India or Japan. Germany has five representatives, Poland and Austria, like most other countries, have one representative on the jury.
