While Will Smith was harassed and mentioned on social networks with strong criticism for his attack on Chris Rock on the podium of the Oscar Awards until he was banned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences; Ezra Miller has only been a trend and the subject of multiple memes where, by the way, violence visibly appears… and despite the occasional dissatisfied tweet, the industry has not taken a position on the matter.

It was at the end of March 2022 when it was reported that Ezra Miller had been arrested in Hawaii for disturbing the peace; Not many more days passed when it was reported again that the authorities of the same country had arrested the actor again, this time for threatening a couple with death; and shortly after, he, too, was re-arrested for second-degree assault.
Three serious crimes for which he has been arrested and to which are added several accusations that have been made in recent weeks such as being in possession of weapons and also being currently a fugitive from justice in Hawaii after being accused by the parents of a minor whom he beat and offered drugs.
Despite all the serious scenario in which he finds himself, the protagonist of ‘The Flash’ has not been seen under public scrutiny as have happened to other film artists who have been completely harassed by situations that do not compare to those of the also actor of ‘Fantastic Animals’.
As is the case with Will Smith, who after the slap to Chris Rock saw the pause and “cancellation” of various projects, criticism from the public and the guild, and even his veto of The Academy. Meanwhile, with stronger crimes on his shoulders, no one has been anything about the protagonist of ‘We Need To Talk About Kevin’, only months have been published and one or another tweet pointing out the situation.
What about the other accusations?
This whole situation is aimed at one thing: How does the racist system work in these kinds of situations, where actors like Will Smith have been severely condemned for minor actors and other industry figures like Ezra Miller, Harvey Weinstein, Roman Polanski and many more, have not faced public and union scrutiny, at this level?
It would be ideal that at this time, film groups or spaces as large as the Oscar Awards, also take a position on these actors, directors and producers who have also come to have the spotlight for their work; but that, curiously, they have not been subjected to accusations in the way that happened with Will Smith after the 2022 Oscar Awards to the point of asking for a public apology as the actor of ‘The Men in Black’ did.
