The World Bank will provide financing to Colombia for up to 2,000 million dollars in 2022

This Monday, at the beginning of his lightning visit for two days to the United States, the president of Colombia, Iván Duque, met with the president of the World Bank, David Malpass and the vice president of the organization, Carlos Felipe Jaramillo with the aim of attracting more financing to Colombia.

According to the head of state, in the meeting with Malpass, “we ratify institutional strength as a guarantee for foreign investment, support and commitment from the private sector and the importance of having banks in the fight against the climate crisis.”

Likewise, at the meeting, the president requested financing from the World Bank to continue facing the effects of migration. “We continue to receive international support for our fraternal migration policy, reflected in the Temporary Protection Statute, for which we request financial support and accompaniment from the World Bank,” Duque said.

According to Duque, financing to Colombia for 2022 by the World Bank, would be between 1,200 million and 2,000 million dollars. For this 2021, President Duque managed to close with the World Bank a financing package also for 2 billion dollars.

“It was a very positive meeting we had with President David Malpass. The financing package is closed for the year 2021 for up to 2 billion dollars, “said the Head of State upon leaving the meeting, held at the headquarters of the World Bank in the capital of the United States.

Meeting with the IMF

President Iván Duque also advanced with the director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, in the extension of the flexible credit line for Colombia, as well as the possibility that the country contributes to the facility of sustainable financing in aspects environmental

“We had a very productive meeting with Kristalina Georgieva, the Managing Director of the IMF, where we are working to extend the flexible credit line for Colombia, beyond our government, and the participation that Colombia has had with Drawing Rights. of the Monetary Fund, where we were users of it ”, said the Head of State.

It is worth mentioning that in December of last year Colombia made a disbursement of the Flexible Credit Line (LFC), with the multilateral entity, for an amount close to US $ 5,400 million, in order to meet the needs of the balance of payments and support the response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This Tuesday, October 12, the president will meet with the secretary of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, at the headquarters of the organization, after which he will move to New York City.
