The World Bank offered a line of loans for “the poor population” | Cipo360

The World Bank announced that it made an offer to the president-elect Javier Milei regarding a line of loans for “the poor population.” Likewise, the organization highlighted that Milei made an “accurate diagnosis” about the situation in Argentina, as well as confirmed that they were “available to help the poor population.”

The vice president of that organization for Latin America, Felipe Jaramillo highlighted: “We see that they have a correct diagnosis, with which we agree: we must attack in the first instance the fiscal problem, which is the cause of inflation,” after the meeting with the future Minister of Economy, Luis Caputo.

Furthermore, he considered that the new officials are “very aware of the enormous imbalances and the importance of acting to find ways to resolve them and, above all, to resolve all the distortions that have been generated.”

On the other hand, Jaramillo said that the main concern that the World Bank has about Argentina is the low economic growth of recent years. “The Argentine economy grew at an annual average of 0.2%. In Latin America the average has grown at 1.3%. It is a significant difference,” he said.

Meanwhile, Marianne Fay, director of the World Bank for Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, said that the organization is “available to see how we can help especially the poor population or the population that is going to suffer a sanction, that is going to be left without answer. Help the Government protect those people and ensure that there is no harm.” It should be noted that the bank has an active loan portfolio of US$ 8.6 billion in the country. In 2024, US$4,500 would enter.
