The American president told his Chilean counterpart on Thursday, November 2, that the next few years would be decisive for the face of the world in the coming decades.
Is the world at a turning point in its history? Joe Biden and his 50 years of political life strongly predict this. This Thursday, during a bilateral meeting at the White House with Chilean President Gabriel Boric, the American head of state assured that the world was at the end of a cycle and at a “moment” where decision-makers will be able to have a direct influence on the future.
Questioned by his young counterpart on crucial subjects such as “the green transition, immigration, economic development” or even “certain problems which arise in this world and which are really difficult nowadays”, the 80-year-old president speaks about his experience to share his “opinion” on the current era.
“We are at a moment, which comes perhaps every six to eight generations, where the world changes in a very short time,” said Joe Biden.
Improving things “together”
The Chilean President – in the United States for a first summit between the heads of state and government or representatives of Barbados, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, of Mexico, Panama, Peru and Uruguay – approved the candidate’s thesis for his own succession to the White House.
“I think what happens over the next two or three years will determine what the world will look like for the next five or six decades,” Joe Biden added.
Before adding: “Together we may be able to improve things.” As part of this summit, the American president must indeed praise the merits of the United States, in competition with China’s massive investments in the region, but also seek agreements on themes such as immigration or the preservation of biodiversity.
But these are not the only subjects of tension between the Americans and certain Latin American countries; the war between Israel and Hamas is another. Gabriel Boric also said during this interview that the situation in the Gaza Strip, relentlessly bombed by Israel, was “unacceptable”.
