The intervention is included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR), which foresees investments of up to €659 million (excluding VAT) from NextGenerationEU funds to modernize more than 80 tunnels, improve the protection of wildlife and vulnerable users and promote sustainability, energy efficiency and interventions against noise on the State Road Network.
The action involves the construction of the housing variant of the N-521 road which crosses the municipality of Malpartida de Cáceres, as well as the doubling of the carriageway of the same road between the connection with the A-66 motorway and the municipality itself. .
The total length of the action is 10.7 kilometers crossing the municipalities of Cáceres, Casar de Cáceres and Malpartida de Cáceres, reported the Ministry of Transport in a press release.
With this action, the problems associated with transit through the current Malpartida de Cáceres crossing point will be eliminated, especially those related to the safety of the most vulnerable users, as well as environmental problems (noise and air pollution) by significantly reducing the traffic it supports , in particular medium and long-distance heavy traffic. In addition, the accessibility to the population of Arroyo de la Luz and the rest of the municipalities west of Cáceres will be significantly improved.
On the other hand, given its proximity to the capital, the city of Malpartida de Cáceres maintains a residential function which is complemented by the existence of an important industrial area, which implies a high traffic intensity (with strong peaks in certain areas hourly). the consequent associated risks.
Likewise, the project will lead to an improvement in pedestrian and cycling mobility, adapting part of the Cáceres-Badajoz natural route for cycling use and creating an extension of the cycle path up to Malpartida.
Finally, a rearrangement of the accesses is envisaged, with service roads on both sides, which will also make it possible to improve the safety of the stretch.
