Working too long can harm our health. According to a study by the World Health Organization (WHO), published in May 2021, working more than 55 hours a week increases the risk of death from heart disease and stroke. In France, the law fixes the weekly working time at 35 hours. The employer must therefore pay any overtime, recalls the Court of Cassation, especially if they exceed the 48-hour threshold.
A delivery driver takes legal action. He complains of having had to work more than fifty hours a week, but the industrial tribunal initially refuses him any compensation. “He does not prove that these busy schedules harmed him”explains the court.
