With victory in the Coupe de France last season, synonymous with a direct ticket to the Europa League, FC Nantes took on another dimension in the summer of 2022. A new status which quickly led to the arrival of “big” names of the French and European scene.
New arrivals overturn the established order
As revealed by L’Équipe on Wednesday, it is precisely these same recruits who occupy four places among the ten highest paid players at the club. Like Mostafa Mohamed (€100,000/month), Florent Mollet (€100,000/month) or even Andy Delort (€180,000/month), the newcomers have truly upset the salary hierarchy at the Jaune-et -Green, bringing the average salary to €100,000.
The most explicit case is that of Moussa Sissoko, who arrived from Watford last summer. After having played matches at the highest level of European football, the French international had arrived as a real star on the banks of the Erdre. This was also felt in the club’s finances, since the former Tottenham midfielder became the highest paid player in the history of FC Nantes, with €310,000 per month. The Nantes player is thus among the 30 best salaries in the championship.

What evolution?
Last year, L’Équipe estimated that the highest paid player in the Cité des Ducs club was Moses Simon, with €150,000 per month. While the Nigerian now only receives “more than” €120,000, the highest salary in the squad has therefore more than doubled compared to last year. The gross monthly salary was around €70,000, which is €30,000 less than this year.
The captain of the Canaries, Alban Lafont experienced a slight increase in his salary, from €140,000 last year to €150,000 currently. He thus climbs on the third step of the podium among the highest paid players at FC Nantes currently. On the strength of his remarkable performances in the cages of FC Nantes, the Yellow-and-Green goalkeeper is still awaiting a first call-up to the France team… which could well only happen after his departure from Nantes, he who has just exceeded the significant bar 20 million euros in market value.
All these upheavals were, among other things, made possible by the departure of the three “undesirables” (K. Coulibaly, JK Augustin, A. Limbombe) who nevertheless weighed heavily in the salary balance: €340,000 monthly between them in March 2022.
Kombouaré also rewarded
Figurehead of FC Nantes’ memorable 2021/2022 season, Antoine Kombouaré has seen his monthly salary double since last year. While his initial contract granted him a salary of up to €100,000 per month, the management of FC Nantes now pays him €200,000 monthly.
This significant increase would be mainly due to the unexpected maintenance obtained during his first season at the head of the Canaries, but also to the coronation in the Coupe de France, and the prospect of repeating this great epic for a second consecutive season because of the brilliant course of the Yellow -et-Vert in the Coupe de France during the 2022/2023 financial year.
