Riga, Sept. 21, LETA. The work “Oligarch” by Artūrs Jankovskis, the second place winner of the Lugu Ideas Fishing Competition, has been staged at the Latvian National Theater and will be premiered on September 24 at 6.30 pm.
As the theater representative Lolita Grāvīte informed LETA, the young playwright’s main occupation is not related to theater, however, the idea of his play addressed a theater jury of ten people.
The completed play tells about Oskars Kaktins’ desire to save Latvia by killing businessman Ainārs Krūmiņš. In order to implement the plan, Oskars waits for a good moment in the elevator of an office building, but the businessman himself “is not open to the naked hand”, Grāvīte told the stories of the play, adding that the play is about punishment, forgiveness and space between these concepts.
Director Toms Treinis emphasized that in the interpretation of the creative team, this is a story about a 21st century man who believes that by freeing Latvia from at least one oligarch, he will become a hero. According to the director, the work is about naive ideals, belief in a better system and Latvia.
“The hero in our story will not be capable and powerful in everything, but a person who does not stand out with anything and just seems to do his job, but quietly dreams of becoming ‘something’. It was also important for me to look for a new person’s place in the world. – where my thoughts and biography coincide with the main character ‘s point of view and where we are similar, “stressed Treinis.
LETA has already written that last year the idea for Linda Rudene’s play “Riests” won the National Theater’s idea of ”fishing”. The jury awarded the idea for the Rudene play first place and a cash prize of 800 euros.
The second place and 300 euros were awarded to the idea of Jankovskis’ play “Oligarch”. The idea of Artūrs Dīčs’ play “Adam and Eve”, which received a cash prize of 300 euros, was ranked third.
The National Theater organized a competition of ideas “fishing”, looking for new ways to attract authors to the theater who want to write plays about Latvian people and events, supplementing the theater repertoire with an offer of quality new drama, LETA previously informed the theater.
