With Sweden’s membership in NATO, the Security Police will participate in the defense alliance’s Civilian Intelligence Committee (CIC). Within the framework of CIC’s work, issues linked to counter-espionage and counter-terrorism are handled.
Sweden’s NATO membership is a matter for the whole of society and a central point of departure for the development of total defence.
The security police assess that Sweden’s membership in NATO and how this will be designed is of interest to foreign powers, not least Russia. How this might affect the security-threatening activities of foreign powers in and against Sweden is too early to say, but something that the Security Police is following closely.
