A respite for the employees of Repetto. Monday evening 18, the work direction (Direccte) rejected the job safeguard plan as presented by the management. Initiated last October by its CEO Jean-Marc Gaucher, it provided for the elimination of 51 jobs, including 31 in production, out of a total workforce of 240 people.
From the start, negotiations between management with the unions, notably the CFDT, stumbled. And, rather rare, the Directorate of Labor retokes a plan that would not be generous enough in terms of compensation and would not make enough room for the possibilities of reclassification, in a basin where employment is scarce. The Repetto production site is located in Saint-Médard-d’Excideuil, in the Dordogne. This is where the famous ballet shoes are made, using almost unique know-how.
Jean-Marc Gaucher, former director of Reebok, took over Repetto in 2000, then in escheat. He has been able to highlight the excellence of the brand’s know-how, preserve and enhance the French site, and develop the label founded by Rose Repetto, the mother of dancer Roland Petit. From a niche brand, Repetto has become a premium brand for the general public, inspired by the world of dance. Her shoes are prized by fashionistas, today accompanied by a ready-to-wear flirting with dance, all in fluidity and grace. The flagship store is located rue de la Paix, a stone’s throw from the Opera.
Good years gone by, a less brilliant situation over the past three years, made even worse by the health crisis. The CEO will have to review his copy. To be continued.
