The night slalom of the Alpine Ski World Cup, which is scheduled for Tuesday, January 11, will not take place in Flachau. The seven-day incidence of COVID-19 cases in the Austrian resort is over 7,600. The Slovak Petra Vlhová triumphed at a prestigious event in 2019 and 2020, finishing fourth last year.
The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV) and the International Ski Federation (FIS) are looking for an alternative venue. “Due to the large number of coronavirus infections, we have decided to take the recommendation of the Salzburg authorities very seriously and there will be no races in Flachau,” the ORF portal quoted from the opinion of the ÖSV.
Over the weekend of January 8 and 9, the skiers will perform in giant slalom and slalom in Kranjska Gora. The Slovenian organizers also had to look for an alternative venue, in Maribor it would not be possible to compete due to unfavorable snow conditions.
