Eugene roared for his vengeful sprinters
The exercise is eminently collective, and here is further proof. The women’s 4x100m at the Worlds in Eugene this Saturday (on the night of Saturday to Sunday, French time) was won by the United States, ahead of Jamaica, which had scored a hat-trick on the straight. Twanisha Terry resisted the return of Shericka Jackson to make “her” public explode with joy (41″14 against 41″18). Germany completed the podium.

Warner struck down, Mayer 6th after half of the races

In the final race of the evening session, the men’s 4×100 relay, France harbored medal hopes. But the transmission of the stick was much less fluid than in series (2nd time) between the Blues. Méba-Mickaël Zézé, Ryan Zézé, Pablo Mateo and Jimmy Vicaut finished last in a race won by Canada’s Andre De Grasse. Like that of the Jamaicans, the supremacy of the Americans (2nd) – deprived of Fred Kerley – has therefore not been confirmed.
Mayer 6th, Warner out: an open decathlon
Kevin Mayer has not said his last word for a medal at these Worlds, despite complicated preparation and an average first day. The Frenchman, world record holder, is 6th halfway through. Damian Warner, Olympic champion and favorite, was injured during the 400m, the last event of this Saturday. He was at the head of a decathlon revived by his withdrawal.

No medal for Tual and Pontvianne
He came with the ambition to do better. Frenchman Gabriel Tual took 6th place in the 800 meters (1:45.49), won by Kenyan Emmanuel Korir (1:43.71), in the first final to be decided on Saturday in Eugene. A year after being an Olympic finalist (7th), Tual was in the game for the medal, at the entrance to the home straight. He flinched and the podium clearly escaped, for more than a second.
The triple jump had started earlier, with a Habs also concerned. Jean-Marc Pontvianne managed to pass the “cut”, from the 12 to the 8 best. But he didn’t do better than 8th place, with a triple jump to 16.86m. The Portuguese Pedro Pichardo was crowned world champion with a flight of 17.95m.

The French 4×400 in the final, Felix prolongs the pleasure
The women’s 5000 meters was won by Gudaf Tsegay (Ethiopia, 14:46.29). Sifan Hassan, short of form, failed in sixth place. Anderson Peters (Grenada, 90.54m) retained his javelin title. This Saturday also took place the 4x400m series. For both men and women, the French relays were invited to the final.
Sokhna Lacoste, Shana Grebo, Sounkamba Sylla and Amandine Brossier set the 7th time, far from a team from the United States in which the immense Allyson Felix delayed his retirement by a few hours. On the men’s side, the “US” are also at the top. Eighth time for the Habs Thomas Jordier, Loïc Prévot, Simon Boypa and Téo Andant.
