Last year, they failed at the gates of the regional final, finishing 2nd in their group. This year the Vernoises have done much better. After beating Selles-sur-Cher on the final day of their group, they won the right to face another Solognote line-up, Langon-sur-Cher, who had finished as the other group leader at the Center.
CB Vernois, the small club on the rise
The final, which took place this weekend in Gièvres (Loir-et-Cher), was masterfully won by the girls trained by Benoît Lelard, whose partner Delphine Langlais is part of the team. “We didn’t need to play the triplet as the girls won three heads up and two braces (see box). However, the matches were tighter than the score indicates, “explained Benoît Lelard.
Female majority in licensees
This climb is a real feat for the Club Bouliste Vernois, which only saw the light in 2018 and which has only 28 members. “We are one of the small clubs in terms of number of licensees, a club with a majority of women (16). We will be one of the little thumbs nationwide next year, “added the Vernois manager.
If this historic rise is a feat given the club’s brief existence, CB Vernois has few experienced players. Delphine Langlais and Prescilia Roussel had been semi-finalists of the French double championship in 2019 and quarter-finals, with Julie Claverie, of the hat-trick in 2021.
Next year, in CNC2 (2nd division national club championship), the CBV could find four more Center clubs, Saint-Florent-sur-Cher (Cher), Saint-Jean-de-la-Ruelle (Loiret) and the two teams of Castelroussines (Indre) of Berrichonne and Stars Pétanque.
CB Vernois beats Langon-sur-Cher 10.5-1.5 *

* The matches are played in 4 head-to-head (1.5 points win), 2 braces (3 points) and 1 hat-trick (6 points).
