Today at 4 p.m. the women of FC Appenzell received the ambitious FC Winterthur in the promotion round. He has only recorded one defeat so far, last won 3-0 in Wil and was only three points away from promotion. But Appenzell missed this dream for them and the spectators who had traveled and won the game 3-2.
The FC Winterthur supporters came with a large number of people (including fireworks). They really wanted to put the ascent in a dry place. At the beginning, the guests were also the team that determined the game and wanted to score the opening goal as early as possible. Hoffmann was able to run towards goalkeeper Frei alone after 8 minutes, but defender Vanessa Keel skilfully passed the ball in time. After 10 minutes you could see that both teams were feeling each other, put a few needle pricks forward, the home team was busy with defensive work. The Appenzell girls found their way into the game better and better and took the early lead after a top-class chance from Mazenauer. The women from FC Winterthur cleared an offensive action before Sarah Wyss came back to the ball and served Barbara Dorsa perfectly, who scored 1-0. After 23 minutes the home team should have increased the lead, but Mazenauer put the round leather forward too far so that goalkeeper Furrer could clear it without any problems. Defender Vanessa Keel showed an impeccable performance until then and cleared time for time for her colleagues. After half an hour, Toja Rauch redeemed the Zurich women with their goal to make it 1: 1 and brought back the hope of promotion. But the goal was something to talk about, because the referee first decided on a throw-in before changing his mind to a free kick after the guests protested, which ultimately resulted in the goal. A combative game, which could now have turned to both sides, went back in favor of the home team. After 36 minutes, the home team again took the lead when Schiegg played a perfect ball through the middle and served Dorsa in an exemplary manner, who prevailed 1: 1 against Furrer and netted to 2: 1. Just 6 turns of the pointer later, a remarkable move even led to 3: 1. The strong Dorsa launched an attack before Sarah Wyss only failed on the crossbar and nodded to 3: 1 in the follow-up shot via head. This was also the break time.
After the break, the Appenzell women expected fireworks from the guests, but this did not happen for the time being. The game continued to be characterized by a lot of fighting. Some chances were created on both sides, but it flattened significantly compared to the first half. It was only after 78 minutes that the next goal was to be celebrated at the Schaies sports facility, namely the connecting goal for Winterthur. Breitenmoser pulled alone on goalkeeper Frei and sank without frills to 3: 2. Now the guests were awake and should have equalized only 2 minutes later, but this time Frei was able to prevail in a 1-1 draw against Breitenmoser. In stoppage time the scene was repeated again and again the final woman from Appenzell stood out. So it was ultimately the unexpected victory of the home team, but it was not stolen.
Because of this defeat, which is probably not factored in, the women from FC Winterthur have to postpone their promotion ceremony.
