The withdrawal of the Force is a Recognition of the Failure of the U.S. Mission in Afghanistan

MOSCOW – Team withdrawal United States of America (USA) from Afghanistan is a de facto acknowledgment of the failure of the US mission in the country. This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Russia , Sergei Lavrov.

“The US has not only withdrawn its troops from Afghanistan. By doing so, they are admitting the failure of their mission,” Lavrov said, as reported by Sputnik on Thursday (8/7/2021). Also read: Russian Combat Helicopters Fire Missiles at Afghanistan Border Shows of Strength

He stressed that the threat of terrorist attacks in Afghanistan is increasing with the withdrawal of US troops from the country. “The main problem is the increasing threat of terrorist attacks. The Taliban are acting more aggressively,” he explained.

Lavrov said that Kabul’s reluctance to form a transitional government was in line with the agreement reached amid the withdrawal of US troops promoting an aggressive solution to the conflict.

On whether Russia will send troops to Afghanistan amid the withdrawal of US troops from the country, Lavrov declined to give a clear answer.

The top Russian diplomat later stated that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) would immediately consider any attack on Tajikistan from Afghan territory. Tajikistan is one of the countries directly bordering Afghanistan and is a member of the CSTO.

“If there is an attack on Tajikistan, this will be immediately considered by the CSTO. Representatives of the CSTO have visited the Tajikistan-Afghanistan border,” Lavrov said.

The CSTO itself is a military alliance formed in 1992, consisting of six former Soviet Union countries namely Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan, with the aim of maintaining peace and stability in Eurasia.
