“I worked on the new book for about two years,” confided Andrzej Sapkowski in an interview for the French magazine Chimères. According to him, it should appear on the shelves of Polish bookstores before Christmas this year, and it should be published in other countries at the beginning of next year. Already at last year’s Comic Con in Vienna, the author revealed that the novel will be an independent story, standing outside the original novel pentalogy. He also confirmed that it will tell directly about the protagonist Geralt of Rivia.
According to an American video game website IGN could the book follow the short story A Little Sacrifice, in which a feared monster hunter goes on a pilgrimage with his friend Marigold after first breaking up with the witch Yennefer of Vengerberg, and helps the prince form a relationship with a mermaid. Netflix is currently preparing its film adaptation, and Sapkowski himself indicated last year that his new book would be connected to the animated film.
However, not only readers can enjoy it, but also players. Developers from the Polish video game studio CD Projekt Red are preparing a new trilogy set in the world of The Witcher, in which Geralt of Rivia will be a supporting character. It was the video games that made the fantasy series famous all over the world at the beginning of the millennium and also caused mass interest in Sapkowski’s books, which began to be published in the 90s. On the other hand, the series adaptation of The Witcher, whose first series Netfix launched five years ago, received mixed reactions among fans. Nevertheless, the creators will follow it up with a fourth series at the end of October.
