The Witcher sequel is the most controversial part of the series. Many people missed it because of optimization, some because of controls, and some because of complexity. Judging by the achievements on Steam, only 23% of players completed the game. In this post we will discuss gameplay, quests and the topic of boobs.

A huge leap forward after the first part

Having launched The Witcher 2 for the first time, I saw unrealistic progress, in comparison with the first part, in which I simply suffered in places. Graphics, dialogues, gameplay – everything has become much better. I was shocked, because expectations were lowered by public opinion.

Gameplay

Finally, we have made adequate combat and you no longer have to stand and call out enemies, as was the case in the first part. Although, I didn’t immediately learn the innovation and having died a couple of times from drowners, for a second I regretted that it was no longer possible to just kill everyone with the left mouse button. But then I got used to it and enjoyed it.

Just like on hard in The Witcher 1, here (on any difficulty) you need to drink potions in advance before the battle. This nuance immerses the player deeper into the world of books and makes him feel like a real Geralt. It’s a pity that in the 3rd part this system was abandoned, there you rather feel like the God of War from God of Thief.

There are also controversial decisions, in the form of a strange arm wrestling mini-game, it’s too easy. The second competitive thing is fist fighting. They were made through “qte”, which is completely boring and monotonous. I won’t say anything about the poker randomizer…

Quests and plot The quests were thoughtful and interesting even in the first part. The sequel, if it didn’t raise the bar, certainly didn’t lower it. The main plus is that there are fewer quests in the style of “find me 10 wolf skins.” As far as I know, CDPR in The Witcher 3 tried to make the most exciting quests, without the clichéd “give and bring”, which they almost even succeeded in, not without reservations. Apparently, this philosophy began to emerge during the development of the sequel, which is noticeable.

The action game about Geralt has a NONLINEAR plot; after completing the game only once, you will miss 10 hours of content due to the fact that you made your choice in favor of one of the sides. I don’t know who might be delighted with this approach, but many will appreciate it.

Lack of open world

I would like to attribute this point to a huge plus. I have always believed that, with the exception of games from Rockstar and perhaps a couple of other titles, vast spaces in the gameplay are simply not needed and are almost always empty, delaying the passage or giving rise to boring tasks for collecting all sorts of dung (plants, treasures, etc.).

In The Witcher 2 this problem is completely absent. The game is divided into chapters, each with its own unique territory. This approach allows you to fill almost every corner of the map with content. Although I noticed cases when I climbed into some secluded place and found nothing there, nothing at all. In the third part they worked hard on this.

Boobs theme

The topic of boobs is not explored at all in the game. The first Witcher set some indecent degree of piquancy, WITHOUT showing animations of intercourse. Legendary cards excite the imagination. It was possible to fool almost any female character, the level of an excellent RPG, not an ARPG. The men of Vizima shouted – “The Witcher is coming! Hide the women! – and you really felt like a love machine named Geralt.

What do we get in the second part? Yes, they tried and made real erotic films, but the quantity and quality of this action is simply insignificant. It was impossible to even find a way to try out all the courtesans for free (well, I didn’t find one). I was very indignant, but would you have seen the face playing The Witcher 3, where this topic is humiliatingly relegated to the 10th plan.

Bottom line

If for some reason you dropped the second part or did not play it at all, then I strongly advise you to correct this. The game is decent, I would call it one of the best in the industry.
