The wishes of the President of the Polynesian Assembly • TNTV Tahiti Nui Television

“My dear friends,

The year 2021 will have profoundly marked all of us. The wounds inflicted by the pandemic will take time to heal. My first thoughts are first of all with those who have been torn from our existence. I think with emotion and compassion of their families and loved ones, overwhelmed by these hasty and painful departures.

Over the past 12 months, we have faced so much and experienced so much together. Together we doubted, before deciding and then adapting. Together we must stay.

Certain subjects could divide us or oppose us to each other. I was struck by our deep attachment to our individual freedoms. Your assembly was sensitive and attentive to the misunderstandings and indignant reactions of minorities in the face of the difficult and courageous decisions taken by President Edouard FRITCH and his government, with the support of the majority, to preserve the common good and the collective interest.

At the end of a particularly trying year, it is time for us to finally reconcile. Without renouncing our convictions and without erasing our differences or our differences, I appeal to the unity of our society and our institutions, to the unity of our companies and our social partners; I wish the unity of our parishes and our communities, unity within our families and our homes.

Throughout this crisis, our assembly has displayed exemplary unity by voting, beyond partisan divisions and political affiliations, the vast majority of its texts unanimously.

A few weeks ago, the country’s budget was adopted by a very large majority. It is a solidarity budget, geared towards growth and modernity. It feeds the ambitious project, supported by our government, to revive our economy.

More recently, a major tax reform was also adopted and will allow the rescue of our generalized social protection system.

More than ever, we will need you, your confidence and your resilience, to build and always look to the future.

I wish you, dear friends, dear families of Polynesia, my most enthusiastic and warm wishes. Happy New Year 2022 to all of you. May God bless you and may he bless our beautiful country.
