The fact that they are precisely four successful women who are now making a common cause with the “Winter pass” podcast is important, believes Olympic and World Cup gold medalist Hanna Öberg.
There will be a lot to talk about with sister Elvira, sprint queen Jonna Sundling and the now-retired skiing icon Charlotte Kalla, says the 28-year-old biathlon star:
– The idea is that we will release an episode every week, it will be a new thing for me but I think it will be rewarding. We will not only talk about what happens behind the scenes, but also touch on topics that you can relate to being both a cross-country skier and a biathlete.
– The fact that we are four girls doing this also means that there are many interesting topics to touch on.
Like what?
– I’m grateful that I’m doing an equal sport, it’s not really like that everywhere when you get an insight into other sports, says Hanna Öberg.
– But there are still aspects within our sports that are not completely equal. As an active member, it is equal, but when it comes to people around the team, we have significantly more men than women, for example. It is not exclusively male (in the leadership team), but this lags behind. So clearly there are things to do.
The biathlon season starts this weekend underway with Swedish premiere in Idre. The following week, the cross-country skiers’ premiere awaits in Gällivare, and in two weeks there will be a World Cup premiere in both sports.
Elvira Öberg is chasing her first WC gold this winter after having last year’s biathlon championship destroyed by illness. But together with Hanna Öberg, she is Olympic first in the relay.
– It’s not necessarily about us being four women, but we have a lot of experience and a lot of knowledge in many subjects, says the 24-year-old about the podcast initiative.
– Everything from how to handle pressure around a competition and how to be influenced by social media to how to get enough energy. I think we have quite a lot to discuss there.
She wants to be one good role model for young people, continues Elvira Öberg.
– And then perhaps above all for young girls, show that you don’t necessarily have to be a guy to be a sports star and make a living from your sport.

To help with podcast creation the quartet who have long shared manager and press officer radio profile Kjell Eriksson.
– This was far too much fun to pass up, says Kalla.
The 36-year-old who is Sweden’s foremost female Olympian of all time has been the driving force for a whole generation of skiers and biathletes.
– It feels very funny that we are four girls doing this together, and also that we cross the boundaries of sports. The mix of the four of us feels very good, and I think we have a lot to learn from each other.
– We have all achieved success and can reflect ourselves in each other, but at the same time we have gotten there in different ways.
