Without ten minutes at four in the center of Viļāni, on Rīgas Street, there was a noise that woke up or all the people living in the vicinity.

“I was asleep. Noise. A blow. Everything. Attapos, his wife shouted that there was an accident, that the house was overturned,” says the landlord Dmitry.

Realizing that a car had literally entered the home of Dmitry’s family, the man threw up the first thing that had happened and rushed out, where he saw a horrible scene – a fragment of a car, unrecognized, was visible from the side of the street under the ruins of his porch. A BMW was standing nearby, and its driver was already trying to help the pilot of the crashed car.

“He pulled him out of the car and put him on the road. He certainly wasn’t conscious, but he was still alive. Then the hurry arrived and concluded that he was already dead,” says Dmitry.

According to the landlord, after a conversation with the BMW driver, it was clear at the scene that there was a very banal reason for this tragedy – street racing.

Both the landlord and the neighbors have known the deceased. This is a local who worked in a car parts store. Previously, however, the man has not gained fame as a foolish rider. However, the locals have noted that law enforcement officers took several bottles of alcohol from the crashed vehicle after the accident. It is possible that the pilot was given extra courage by the intoxication of the degrees.

The landlord thinks that in this situation he and his family were saved only by a successful coincidence, because the crashed car stopped literally a few meters away from the beds where people were sleeping at that time.

Dmitry is currently facing a long and tedious process with insurers, builders and experts to understand the condition of the building after the impact and whether it can be restored at all.

In turn, during the criminal proceedings, the State Police investigators will have to determine exactly who is to blame for what happened and then, most likely, this criminal proceedings will have to be terminated, as it is likely that the perpetrator will have died.
