The day was very rainy everywhere on the island, this Thursday, January 19th. The evening too.
Météo France has issued a yellow vigilance bulletin for heavy rain and thunderstorms in the North, East and South-East of Reunion for the day. In the evening, vigilance was extended to the whole of the island.
Although far from Reunion, the strong tropical storm Cheneso generates a band of heavy rainfall that will circulate in our Department.
Heavy rains still occur this morning, before a lull in the late morning and early afternoon. A re-intensification of the rains is expected in the evening and next night, especially in the east of the island. The greatest caution is therefore required around rivers and ravines.
Vigilance for strong winds is lifted on the South and South East, but theThe easterly wind remains moderate to fairly strong. Good gusts of 70 km/h are expected from Saint-Philippe to Saint-Joseph but also gusts of 60 km/h between Saint-Denis and Pointe des Galets. The wind tends to weaken during the afternoon. The sea is choppy to strong with an easterly swell between 1.50 and 2.50 meters. A small northeasterly swell sets in on the north coast of the island.
Tomorrow, Friday, the weather will be still disturbed and rainy, still linked to the tropical storm Cheneso present in the North-West of the Mascarenes. Despite a possible lull in the morning on the West and the South, a copious watering is maintained on the East and in particular on the flanks of the volcano.
In the afternoon, the most significant accumulations may occur this time on the leeward side, especially in the South-West and South of the department with significant values for these areas. Like this Thursday, the showers can take on a stormy character at times. Although less sustained than the day before, the wind remains sensitive from East to North-East.
