The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday, March 17, recommended the continued use of the Covid-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca until further announcements, reports TV3 News.
In the six weeks since the European Commission (EC) introduced the vaccine export control mechanism, pharmaceutical companies have delivered 9.1 million doses of vaccine to factories from factories in the European Union (EU) and shipped one million doses to the United States. If the situation does not change, the bloc will have to consider how to make exports to vaccine-producing countries dependent on their level of openness, EC President Urzula von der Leiena told a press conference.
She warned that the EU would assess whether “exports to countries with higher vaccination ratings than ours are still proportionate”.
The WHO recommends that the Covid-19 vaccine developed by AstraZeneca be continued until further notice. On March 16, the EC president emphasized her confidence in AstraZeneca vaccines, but warned that the virus would return.
“If we look at the epidemiological situation, it is getting worse. This is worrying. We are seeing the spread of new variants of the virus, mainly the British strain, we are seeing the peak of the third wave and we know that we need to speed up the pace of vaccination, ”said EC President Urzula von der Leiena.
At the same time, the EC calls on Member States to prepare for the phasing out of Covid-19 restrictions. On March 17, French President Emanuel Macron met with his Polish counterparts and was generally optimistic.
