Humanity will not be able to contain the spread of the new virus, Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus believes.

In the future, a dangerous virus will appear on Earth that humanity cannot control. This was announced on Friday, October 29, at a meeting of the G20 finance and health ministers in Rome, by the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, writes TASS.

According to him, the emergence of another virus on Earth, the spread of which will be impossible to contain, is “undeniable from the point of view of biology.”

“Even if we end this pandemic, we need to learn the lessons it teaches us and prepare for the next one. Biologically, there is no doubt that at some point there will be another virus that we simply cannot contain.” – he stressed.

Ghebreyesus also stressed that “high-level political participation” is necessary to combat “high-level threats”.

He urged G20 participants to support the conclusion of a legally binding international agreement on preparing for and responding to pandemics. The corresponding decision is planned to be taken at a special session of the World Health Assembly in November.

The head of WHO also drew attention to the lack of equality in access to vaccines in the world, recalling that now 36% of the world’s inhabitants are completely vaccinated against the virus, while in Africa this figure is “only 6%.”

According to WHO, as of October 29, 245,373,039 cases of coronavirus infection have been detected in the world since the beginning of the pandemic. 4,979,421 people died from the consequences of the disease.
