The White Sox do not have the expected start to the season

Before the season started, all pundits and fans were pretty optimistic about the White Sox’s chances of finishing first in the (weak) Central Division.

The season is still young and Tony La Russa’s troupe may end the season at the top of this division, but things are going badly in Chicago right now. The team has lost its last six games and was swept by the Cleveland Guardians last Wednesday and Thursday.

After 14 games, therefore, Chicago is 6-8, good for third place in the powerhouse.

The big problem on the South Side isn’t the lack of talent, far from it. In fact, the club is decimated by injuries.

As Jon Heyman points out, several good players on this team are on the sidelines.

The names of Garret Hook, Lance Lynn, Lucas Giolito, Yoan Moncada, Joe Kelly and most recently Eloy Jimenez (six to eight weeks) are on the injured list.

Without them, Chicago has a good team, but the depth is tested. Luis Robert and José Abreu will have to carry the team on their shoulders if they hope to play for at least .500 when the big guns return from injury.

That’s the big problem in all sports, injuries. The good teams will overcome these injuries and the less good ones will miss the boat. The Jays, too, have important players on the sidelines. Teoscar Hernandez, Danny Jansen and Hyun-Jin Ryu are injured, but the team still wins.

In short, there are still a lot of games left in the regular season. It’s not the time to panic in the Windy City, but fans were still hoping for a better start to the season.
