The bronchiolitis epidemic advances in France, which is why the French Minister of Health, Francois Braun, has decided to trigger the planned white plan in exceptional health situations in all hospitals.
This is the ORSAN plan (organization of the response of the health system in exceptional health situations) specific to this epidemic, which allows all hospitals to be able to concentrate at present on this acute problem, stressed Minister Braun.
A total of 6,891 children under the age of two were consulted in the metropolis “emergency room” for bronchiolitis in the week of October 31 to November 6, a 7% increase over the previous week. About 2,337 children were hospitalized.
Bronchiolitis is a viral infection – mainly caused by the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) – common in young children, characterized by inflammation and congestion of the bronchioles.
Symptoms of bronchiolitis are similar to a common cold, followed by coughing, wheezing, and sometimes shortness of breath.
