The Government of Joe Biden described former President Donald Trump’s statements supporting an attack by Russia as crazy and atrocious to NATO allies who are not up to date with their financial obligations.
Trump said this Saturday at a campaign rally in Conway, South Carolina, that would “encourage” Russia to attack any of the United States’ allies in the military alliance with outstanding debts.
Addressing his supporters, Trump (2017-2021) said he had made his comments about Russia during a meeting of leaders of NATO countries in response to a hypothetical question about debtors.
The White House described the comments as “appalling and deranged” in a statement.
President Biden “has restored our alliances and made us stronger in the world because he knows that the first responsibility of every commander in chief is to keep the American people safe,” said White House spokesman Andrew Bates.
Without naming Trump, Bates added that it is “egregious and unhinged” to encourage the invasion of our closest allies by murderous regimes.
He added that these actions “endanger American national security, global stability and our domestic economy.”
Former President Trump, who is emerging as the Republican candidate for the presidential elections next November, has expressed doubts about the existence of NATO as well as about aid to Ukraine, which is defending itself from the invasion launched by Russia in February 2022.
The United States has provided Ukraine with more financial support than any other country, but that aid is currently stagnant, conditioned in Congress by Republicans to adopting a heavy hand in internal immigration policies.EFE
