The White House Expresses Concern over China’s Attempt to Ban iPhone in Retaliation against the United States

The White House said on the 13th that China’s efforts to develop and expand bans on the use of iPhone smartphones appear to be an attempt to retaliate against the United States. This is the first time the White House has expressed its opinion on the headwinds facing Apple.

“Obviously we are watching this issue with concern,” Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator at the U.S. National Security Council (NSC), told reporters on Tuesday. “This appears to be akin to aggressive and inappropriate retaliation against…” “The reality is that we don’t know exactly what they’re doing or why. We would ask them to be more transparent about what they know and what they do,” he added.

Bloomberg News reported this month that China plans to extend a ban on iPhone use to a number of state-owned companies and government agencies. Several institutions in China have begun instructing staff not to bring iPhones to work.

Prior to Kirby’s remarks, China claimed on the 13th that it was aware of security issues with the iPhone. It was the first time the Chinese government had commented on the issue.
