The number of wheel clamps placed in Scheveningen has exploded in recent years. After springs and summers in which the municipality of The Hague sometimes placed no more than a few dozen wheel clamps at wrong parkers, there were more than 600 in 2021 and almost 3000 last year, reports Broadcasting West.
This is an expensive joke for the motorist. Removing a wheel clamp costs 306 euros. Anyone who does not report the car with a wheel clamp on the same day will pay an extra 306 euros for towing and parking at a towing service. Per day that the car remains there, the motorist pays another 25 euros.
Long rounds
Residents in Scheveningen have been complaining for years about nuisance from parking cars on sunny days. In some places people drive fast or people drive around for a long time looking for a parking space. Wild campers spent the night on the beach without cleaning up their mess. Earlier there were also street races in the village.
During the corona years, the problem only got bigger: more people went on holiday in their own country and Scheveningen was sometimes overrun.
Last March, the municipality came up with a action plan. There was a parking app and extra parking space for (shared) scooters. Many more traffic controllers have also been deployed and the Strandweg has been closed a few times on busy days.
Sound measurements
Together with the Police the municipality also set one noise patrol in: a device that measures the maximum permissible sound level of a vehicle. It is unknown how often that happened, but the fine is also high there: 450 euros per violation.
In March, The Hague will present a new action plan for next summer, which will also include Kijkduin.
