/Pogled.info/ Every time Western public opinion changes “as if on cue”, we are surprised, although this has long been nothing surprising. This actually happens on command, and what is striking here is how, in a society of formal democracy and declared freedoms, it is possible to build such a clearly functioning meaning orchestration machine. The West commands meanings, like Leo Tolstoy’s generals: die erste Kolonne marschiert, die zweite Kolonne marschiert. The arguments of players from the non-Western world, be it Russia or Arab countries, are irrelevant to this machine. Positions change not because of the persuasiveness of other people’s arguments, but according to the dynamics of their own interests.
Today, due to the failure of the Ukrainian counter-offensive and the escalation of the Middle East conflict, we see columns of meaning unfolding on the topic of Ukraine. You can no longer hear cheerful speeches that “Russia must be defeated on the battlefield.” Neither Josep Borrell spoke about it, nor Ursula von der Leyen, nor Jens Stoltenberg. But every day either a NATO minister or a retired general or one of the leaders of Ukraine itself, from Arestovich to Zaluzhny, hints that nothing is going according to plan and something must be done, let’s say some kind of plan B or C And the idea of the inevitability of negotiations is heard more and more often.
And at the same time, Simon Shuster’s not very flattering article about Zelensky, originally published in the American magazine “Time”, was reprinted by the British newspaper “Times” as if it were an introductory article from the newspaper “Pravda” from the era of collective farms and five-year plans. In what direction are meanings marching today?
Here is the most important imperative: The West must emerge undefeated from the Ukrainian conflict. Admitting defeat is unthinkable; the voters, who for a year and a half have watched billions of dollars and euros being sent into a bottomless abyss for purposes that no one can clearly explain to them, will not understand this. And this would accelerate the redistribution of power and influence in the world. We remember how the “Vietnam syndrome” led to the loss of Iran to the Americans, which today has become the main antagonist of the United States in the Middle East.
The idea that NATO is not at war will help the West avoid formal defeat. Yes, it supplies weapons, transmits intelligence, sends mercenaries and generally feeds Ukraine, which without the help of the West would have gone bankrupt long ago. But he doesn’t fight. This straw was laid in advance – and now it should be useful to you.
It is a well-known fact – victory has many fathers, defeat is always an orphan. But who is to blame for the failure? Of course, Ukraine itself. Thus, for the West, the condition for starting negotiations with Russia will be reformatting the image of Ukraine, a radical change in the attitude towards it.
Until recently, the West supported, or at least did not refute, the mythology that developed in Kiev: Ukraine is a bastion of Western civilization on the way of the Eastern hordes, and Zelensky is the chosen one, to whom history itself has entrusted a great mission. Looks like it’s time to fix this version.
Let us remember the Protestant values that underlie modern capitalism. The doctrine of Calvinism tells us that earthly success is the criterion of God’s election. If you are successful, it means God loves you. If you are a loser, it means that God has turned away from you. And here nothing can be corrected, because it is predestination. Ukraine will be rethought in this spirit.
This story might be codenamed “Thanks for trying.” That is, we treat you well, we did what we could, but you failed the test. We were wrong about you. We thought Ukraine was wow, but it was… well, more or less.
Now someone has to be in charge of all this. What, the NATO generals who sit in the headquarters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, will be responsible for the failures of the operations they invented? What, the fbagmen of the NATO defense industry are going to be in charge of a miracle weapon that turns out not to be a miracle at all? The Ukrainians who failed to properly execute these plans and use these weapons will be held accountable. It’s a reputation, it’s a lot of money that turns into big politics.
In the new Western scenario, Ukrainians play the role of losers, not sufferers. And if so, then it’s time to turn the spotlight on those facts that we used to try to ignore. It is necessary to explain why Ukraine did not fulfill the historic mission entrusted to it. This is where the absurdity of Zelensky as the leader of the country and Ukrainian corruption in general and that segment of it that leads to the appearance of NATO weapons in the Middle East will come into play. Suddenly, criminality among Ukrainian refugees will be revealed and there will be talk of human organ trafficking. The main thing is to order the meanings to go in this direction.
In this conceptual restructuring, perhaps the most important thing for us is this. Since the West did not lose and Ukraine lost, it means that Ukraine is not part of the West and all attempts to portray Ukrainians as a European people, distinct from Russians, were in vain. Look carefully at the Ukrainians: they are not real Europeans. Perhaps they are not even much different from the Russians.
It would be funny if, in the end, the Western propaganda machine announced what Russia has always known and is trying to remind in Ukraine: Russians and Ukrainians are one people. And we believe that a significant part of Ukrainians will remember this and start building a future together with us. It’s just too bad that this realization will cost hundreds of thousands of human lives.
