The West’s Manipulation of University Rankings and Drain of Creative Talent: Russian Foreign Intelligence Head

On Sunday, the head of Russian Foreign Intelligence, Sergei Naryshkin, made a statement that seemed far removed from the work of the intelligence services when he touched on an educational issue.

The Russian news agency TASS quoted Sergey Naryshkin as saying that the West is manipulating university rankings around the world.

Not only that, Naryshkin added that the West is working to drain creative talent from Asian and African countries by fraudulently luring young talent there.

He considered that this would turn non-Western countries into mere non-optional sources of intellectual capital.

He accused the West of hindering the development of education systems in Asian and African countries.

The head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service spoke during a speech he delivered at the Eastern Economic Forum in the city of Vladivostok in the Far East of Russia.

Naryshkin said that neo-colonial approaches to education and technology undoubtedly represent a serious challenge.

He added that while ranking the world’s leading universities, Western countries show little objectivity, and sometimes it even amounts to a clear conspiracy.
