ICO surgeons adopt an innovative technique indicated in breast, digestive and gynecological cancers – ICO Angers
–
The Western Cancer Institute (ICO) is investing in a laparoscopy column allowing surgeons to use an innovative technique indicated in breast, digestive and gynecological cancers.
The Angevin site of the ICO has already performed several operations using this new technique, particularly in patients with endometrial cancer.
This new tool, in addition to producing 4K images, enables the detection of the fluorescence of the green dye by a dedicated camera with infrared probe. In gynecology, the laparoscopy column helps to better identify the first ganglion relays, carrying tumor cells or not, and to remove them so as to limit the need for complete dissection. In senology and digestive systems, this new technique also allows better detection of certain tumors and metastases.
« In addition to these major advances, there is an advantage for the patient, since the postoperative hospitalization time is reduced. Finally, the patient information system also benefits from this investment, since the images taken during the operation are automatically transferred to the patient file and thus stored. », Specifies the Institute of Cancerology of the West.
