/ world today news/ The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Macedonia, Turkey, Serbia, Greece, Hungary and the Minister of European Affairs of Turkey held a meeting on the energy security of Central and Southeastern Europe, at which they adopted a joint declaration on strengthening energy cooperation.
In the declaration, the ministers noted that cooperation in the provision of energy will contribute to good neighborly relations between the countries, as well as to the well-being of citizens.
They emphasized the importance of ensuring secure, uninterrupted and affordable sources of energy, especially natural gas, for citizens and industry in the countries. They also noted the importance of attracting investment to the region in order to help economic growth and employment.
The ministers also expressed their support for the creation of a commercially viable project for the diversification of sources for obtaining natural gas from the territory of Turkey, passing through Macedonia, Serbia, Greece and Hungary to the countries of Central and South-Eastern Europe. In this way, according to them, the energy markets of Turkey, the EU and the countries participating in the energy community in the Southern Gas Corridor will be supported.
The parties also committed to work to create new opportunities for regional and economic development by creating natural gas infrastructure links to the five countries with EU financial assistance, but they also expressed readiness to cooperate with other countries that would like to participate in the realization of their efforts and projects.
The ministers’ declaration also says that they reaffirm the political will and that an exchange of positions is necessary, as well as a dialogue on the specific issues that arise between the individual participating countries, as well as the companies working in the project. / MIA
