The West Must Design a New Strategy to Face the Russian Invasion, The First Phase of the Ukrainian War Has Ended

SERAMBINEWS.COM, WASHINGTON – The Ukrainian War which has been going on for almost a year on February 24 2022 has sparked various speculations.

Such a swift victory for Russia, with its army parading in triumph through the streets of Kiev.

Or the collapse of power in the Kremlin, with Vladimir Putin being put in a coup.

It is possible, however, to have a swiftly negotiated peace settlement, with small tracts of land changing hands as borders are redrawn.

When Russian troops moved across the border a year ago this week, there were many different possible outcomes of the war.

However, there is one thing that was unexpected, the war of attrition has not ended or is also endless, as reported by The Telegraph, Sunday (19/2/2023).

Yet, 12 months later, that’s what was achieved.

Both sides have long fought across a stretched front the likes of which Europe has not seen since World War I.

To survive, and ultimately win, Ukraine will need a lot of weapons, but also something else.

Wars of attrition are very expensive, and Ukraine is not a wealthy country to begin with.

Kiev needs a lot of financial assistance; massively by increasing common trade across Europe through the opening of markets.

However, most EU countries are not caught up in the fighting.

The West has so far provided military assistance well, but there is still little sign of an economic plan for the battered country.

The losses Ukraine has suffered in the year since Vladimir Putin’s brutal invasion of the country on February 24 last year are largely counted in the deaths and injuries of its heroic armed forces.
