Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Sunday that more than $300 billion was stolen from Russia, most of which was payments for oil and gas supplies, as energy giant Gazprom had to keep money in Western bank account.

“They wanted to ‘punish’ Russia, so they stole it,” Lavrov told Italian broadcaster Mediaset.

He explained, “Money was stolen from us (more than USD300 billion)… most of that amount was received for oil and gas supplies.”

Lavrov noted, “Now we are offered to continue trading as before, and the money will stay with them.”
