MOSCOW – Mistakes on the consequences of global sanctions against Russia , including the possibility of famine in a number of countries, is in the hands of Western countries who for their domination are ready to sacrifice the whole world. This was stated by the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin Thursday (12/5/2022).

He noted that a number of countries were already facing the threat of famine. And, if sanctions against Russia continue, the EU could also face consequences that will be difficult to reverse.

“The blame for this lies entirely and completely with the elites of Western countries who in order to maintain their global dominance are ready to sacrifice the whole world,” the Russian leader said at a meeting on economic issues.

According to Putin, in turn, Russia is confidently facing external challenges, thanks to the responsible macroeconomic policies of recent years and systemic solutions to strengthen economic sovereignty and technological and food security.

“Our production companies are gradually filling the niches of the domestic market that were liberated after unscrupulous partners left, including basic goods, industrial equipment and services, construction and agricultural machinery,” Putin was quoted as saying by the TASS news agency.

Meanwhile, according to a United Nations agency, conflict, extreme weather and economic shocks raised the number of people facing severe food shortages by a fifth to 193 million last year. And, the Ukraine war means the outlook will deteriorate without immediate action.

The Global Network Against Food Crisis, set up by the United Nations and the European Union, said in its annual report that the number of people facing acute food insecurity and in need of urgent and life-saving food assistance has almost doubled in the six years since 2016.
