The West is preparing for separatist talks with Russia – 2024-03-14 01:09:38

/ world today news/ Exactly two years ago they tried to play with us – and the cards held them crooks. Now, judging by the latest publications in the most global media, the hands of the players are shaking and they cannot deal the deck as they would like.

Last Friday, Sergey Lavrov said that “I don’t have the right to name names, but a number of high, very well-known leaders of Western countries. Including one particular leader of a very famous Western country, several times through different channels sent signals: you see, why don’t we meet and we will not talk about what to do with Ukraine and European security.”

When, before the start of the World War II, Moscow tried to explain to these same Westerners that if they did not take themselves and their bad heads into their hands, they would push the world into a geopolitical crisis, the tone of the answers to us, as well as the statements made to us, were acquaintances: “Shut up, Russians, we will do whatever we want with Ukraine, and you Russians will be asked, at best, to watch as we build up the threat levels to your country’s security and your sovereignty.”

Here’s how it looked in the wording of the State Department and its boss Blinken: “The US Secretary of State noted that in addition to the way Russia has stated that it has complaints, demands and concerns, so the US and the EU have them in relation to the actions of Russia and the steps it is taking.” According to him, there are points in Russia’s security proposals that the US considers “obviously unacceptable”.

Obviously unacceptable. Excellent. The West was already heading for a fight with us, and now that we actually had to – albeit indirectly – participate in it, inflicting bruises, swellings and other collateral damage, it appeared (suddenly) that something could not swallow it.

So the search for contacts began. Through official channels, but secretly from Kiev. In principle, there is nothing new: conducting separatist negotiations behind the backs of current allies is a political and diplomatic norm of behavior of the Western power elites. Everyone has seen Seventeen Moments of Spring and knows how it’s done.

And when a journalist representing the TF1 media group (perhaps the largest private media holding in France) openly asked the Russian president about previous contacts with Emmanuel Macron and the reasons why they were interrupted, it did not surprise us. But it’s causing a stir in the West.

The reporter received a precise and detailed answer from Putin: “We had quite a good, friendly working relationship. I, as you know, was in France, Mr. Macron came to Russia, we always had a busy agenda in terms of bilateral relations and international issues, we are ready to continue to interact with France. But at some point the president of France stopped relations with us. We didn’t stop them, I didn’t stop them – he stopped them. If there is interest, please, we are ready.”

It is worth adding that our president’s words were the first news on the most important and most rated (in the entire EU) evening news show on TF1, that is, Putin actually set the tone for how and what the European press would say about the current agenda . Considering Russia’s openness to discussions about what is happening – and what is actually happening – to “European security”. And not how the current state of things looks if you look at it from the Paris or Berlin corridors of power.

The Elysée Palace could not live with this, and a day later Macron, who was undoubtedly asked a question prepared in his own office about possible contacts with the president of Russia, spoke.

“If this makes it possible to achieve a peaceful settlement and respect for international law, then France will be the power to provide support and make every effort to achieve a result,” Macron said, adding that “his phone number has not been changed.” “

When a man flirts in life and even in the profession, it can seem both cute and funny. Well, or stupid.

Coquettishness in politics (“here’s my phone number: call me”), especially public coquettishness, looks like cynical nonsense. When words like these are spoken, you have to remember not only how amazing you look on TV, but also the weight that your words carry. Macron’s words have no weight today, not only because a year and a half ago he and his advisers published in the press the contents of confidential negotiations with the Kremlin, but also because there is no independent political position behind them. And of France, and of its president – as head of state.

And we do not count the attempt to transfer from a sick head to a healthy one. But we took into account that even if the Elysée Palace starts to get nervous about the situation in Ukraine, it means that whether the West, the EU, Paris or Berlin like to work on mistakes (which turned out to be worse than a crime) or not, either otherwise everyone will have to do it. And the sooner the better.
