We have been hearing about The Idolthe new project in which The Weeknd would have embarked with Sam Levinsonthe creative mind behind the popular series Euphoria. And beyond all the expectation that his most provocative, controversial and sexual side has aroused, the truth is that the Canadian’s new project is going to allow us to see several of his artistic facets.
Because until now we knew that Abel Tesfayethe real name of the musician, had been behind the creation, the script and the production of this new series of 6 chapters created for HBO. What we didn’t know until now is that he had also created a whole new album for it. And this without forgetting his role as an actor.
This has been confirmed by the artist himself during a interview with The Interview in which he has hinted that the entire musical facet bears his signature: “There is a complete album around the series. I have not been shy when it comes to making music. It has been another element to add to my otherwise crowded agenda” explained the interpreter between laughs.
In a show in which music is going to be the protagonist since Jocelyn, the role played by Lily Rose-Deppwants to become an entertainment star, could not miss the seal of The Weeknd: “I have been inspired by The Wall and Purple Rain and the time when Bowie was doing it, and even in movies like Shaft. The music literally tells you the story. But I wanted to take it to another level. I wanted to challenge myself as a musician and feel like I was the best I’ve ever been.”
Until next June 4 we will not be able to enjoy the premiere of the first chapter of The Idol at Max, but The Weeknd has already taken charge through his social networks of warming up the atmosphere. Through an IG Live he has been showing small fragments of his new songs without it being clear for now that the album around this series will see the light on that date.
“The Idol Vol.1” he tweeted on his official profile on that social network along with a 17-second video in which he was seen in the recording studio listening to an orchestral arrangement. The musical surprise that Abel Tesfaye has prepared for us for his new series promises to give us a lot to talk about. And more taking into account that there are other artists involved of whom it has been possible to see a brief fragment like Future.
The Idol
Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is behind the series that stars The Weeknd and Lily Rose Depp as the leads. The story tells how Jocelyn, a pop singer, begins a turbulent relationship with Tedros, a self-help guru who is secretly the leader of a cult.
That’s the role of Abel Tesfaye: the owner of one of the most exclusive clubs in Los Angeles, who falls in love with a pop star played by Johnny Depp’s daughter. The first preview has already shown that it seems like one of the most anticipated bets of 2023.
It has been more than two years since filming began and there is still no release date, because there have been many obstacles. The director and screenwriter of some chapters left the project and finally Levinson and The Weeknd took the reins and rewrote a large part of the story, changing the feminist vision it had. Part of these workers assure that the singer wanted more prominence.
The series features an all-star cast: Jennie de Blackpink, Troye Sivan, Moses Sumney, Dan Levy, Hari Nef, Hank Azaria…
