The Weeknd has hinted that he’s “ready to close” a chapter on his music career.
In an interview for W magazine published Monday, the singer-songwriter – real name Abel Tesfaye – revealed that he is evaluating some of his options.
“I’m going through a cathartic path right now,” she shared. “It’s coming to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the chapter on The Weeknd. I’ll still make music, maybe like Abel, maybe like The Weeknd. But I still want to kill The Weeknd. And I’ll do it. Eventually. I’m definitely trying to shed that skin and be reborn.”
The Weeknd, who released his fifth studio album Dawn FM in January 2022, did not divulge any further details about his plans to “kill off” his personality.
“The album I’m working on right now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd. This is something I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said all I can say,” the 33-year-old declared.
However, the Canadian star indicated that he enjoyed trying his hand at acting on HBO’s upcoming show The Idol, which he co-created with Reza Fahim and Sam Levinson.
“Film and television are a new creative muscle for me,” he continued, before apparently referring to some production delays. “I don’t release my music until I think it’s great. Why would it be different?
The Idol will begin airing on June 4.
