Prague – Canadian singer The Weeknd performed today at the airport in Prague’s Letňany. The musician, whose real name is Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, offered a dozen songs from his latest albums Dawn FM and After Hours as well as older hits to the packed audience. There was also a number of cover songs created thanks to The Weeknd’s collaborations with other musicians. The 33-year-old native of Toronto opened the concert on a stage reminiscent of a modern steel city with the song Take My Breath from last year’s Dawn FM recording. Two more songs Sacrifice and How Do I Make You Love Me? followed from the successful album.
The Weeknd then covered older songs during a laser and pyrotechnic show, including The Hills from 2015’s Beauty Behind the Madness, which became his first US number one single. Among the listed songs that The Weeknd has in his repertoire thanks to collaborations with various musical colleagues was, for example, the track “Crew Love” from the second studio album Take Care, under which Canadian actor, singer and rapper Drake is signed. There was also the hit Starboy, involving collaboration with the now disbanded French electronic duo Daft Punk, or the song Low Life from the album Evol by the American rapper performing under the name Future.
There was also The Weeknd’s five-year-old My Dear Melancholy EP, which featured the songs I Was Never There and Call Out My Name. At the end of the concert, the enthusiastic singing and dancing audience was treated to the big hit Blinding Lights, which became the first song in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 chart to stay in the top ten for an entire year. The Weeknd, whose discography includes the genres of pop, R&B, hip hop, dance and alternative, also included Moth to a Flame in the encore, which he collaborated on with the trio Swedish House Mafia.
After the Depeche Mode concert, which brought problems a week ago, the Prague authorities feared a traffic collapse. The visitors, of whom 60,000 arrived according to the organizers, were warned in advance that there would be a shortage of parking spaces in and around the concert venue. Most followed the recommendation to use public transport to get to the event. Only components of the integrated rescue system, public transport and residents were allowed to enter the closed area.
R&B star The Weeknd is one of the biggest hitmakers of the last decade. At the beginning of this year, he became the first artist to break the barrier of 100 million listeners per month on the Spotify streaming platform.
The Weekend is also known for its humanitarian activities. Binance, one of the sponsors of The Weeknd After Hours Til Dawn Tour, prepared collectible digital NFT tokens in cooperation with the singer for the participants of the Prague concert. By purchasing them, participants will contribute to support the XO food fund, which was founded by The Weeknd and is managed by the World Food Program (WFP). Binance also contributed two million dollars to the XO fund.
